Where is highfield queensland

The well-timbered Highfields area attracted timber-getters and by the s there were numerous sawmills operating in the district. The passage of the Lands Act attracted further settlement, as did the completion of a narrow gauge railway line from Toowoomba to Ipswich, ascending the main range through Highfields to Murphy's Creek.

Many of the rail workers remained in the Highfields district once the line was complete. The railway transported timber, and shortly afterwards dairy produce from the farm selections taken up on the cleared hills. Highfields village began in the s with a school and a Lutheran church The post office directory recorded the Highfields store, the Range View Hotel and a white steepled Lutheran church About half the farm families had German names.

Small blocks? Compared to Sydney or Melbourne with has a 2 hour drive or 1 to 2 hour train trip into the city to access affordable housing, I think a 20 minuet drive is a better option. As for wild life we see lots of Kangaroos out around Meringandan, and parrots abound all over the Highfields area.

Beautiful big trees give welcome relief from the heat of summer. I left that comment maybe 5 years ago? And I still stand by my review. Highfields is over-rated. There are much nicer areas closer to town, on bigger blocks, with natural bushland and wildlife other than kangaroos. I have friends at Highfields who live in big houses on little blocks, where you can talk to your neighbour through the kitchen windows.

I can understand that in a city, but not 20 minutes out of town. And apart from grocery stores, what is there? One decent cafe? Meringandam however is different. But it is very dry, and doesnt get the rainfall that south of Toowoomba gets. Half acre blocks add to the feeling of spaciousness and a country feel.

No nearby industry so the air is clean and healthy. It really is the best of both worlds as being so close to Toowoomba it offers country ambience but city convenience. I lived there for two years and loved it. It is easy to get around and the access to the highway allows for good weekend breaks to the coast or why not explore the Bunya Mountains. The weather is cool in winter and in summer it is not hot and humid like the coast is.

Quiet, friendly community. Great sport and gyms. Beautiful houses and huge blocks. Highfields is a lovely country town with all of the facilities you need and only 10 minutes from Toowoomba. Excellent community spirit, peace, quiet, space and room to grow. Beautiful big house blocks with lots of trees, birds and wildlife. With several great schools and parks in the area, this is the perfect town for a family.

Plenty of shops and services in Highfields with friendly, welcoming staff. Even the staff in Coles and Woolies are happy and friendly! Having recently retired and moved to Highfields I have quickly discovered how friendly and how welcoming the locals are - no time to be bored in HIghfields as there are plenty to clubs, and organizations if one wants to be involved.
