We had the PoE filter connected at this outlet, and then a splitter between the digital cable box and cable modem. At this new place I'm not sure if I need to consider a PoE filter or not. IAC -- I've recently moved to a new place. If an apartment or a condominium, there usually is a "wiring-closet" on each floor, and coaxial cable runs from there to each unit. If a house, follow the coaxial-cable from the telephone-pole to Shaw's "demarcation-box" on the outside of the house.
There will be one cable going into the box, but how many cables come out of the box? Three, in your case? There might be a 3-way splitter inside that locked box. Now that we're settling in, I'd like to move the internet modem to the master bedroom, and have the Shaw cable box in the living room.
If you put your own two-way splitter on that living-room outlet, it can feed both the TV box and the cable-modem. Then, you can try to use WiFi in the master bedroom. In a house, Shaw may run new coaxial-cables through the attic, or through the basement, into each room, and poke a small hole in the drywall for the coaxial-outlet. Or, if a room has a wall that is an outer-wall to the house, they might bore a hole through the outside wall, into the room, and run the cable around the outside of the house, to that hole.
I moved to an Apartment Building, it's an older building, but has been set up for Shaw. I know this because I was able to do a self-transfer. Here is how I think my place is wired:. My question on how the wiring is done at my place is because in theory: if there is only one master feed into the unit and from there it's split out to each outlet: living room, dinning room, and master bedroom, then I should be able to connect the cable modem to any available outlet.

To me wiring this way makes no sense so I'm hoping these are faulty connections.
