I could post my share of experiences if that helped anyone.. But, Deebee, you are unfortunately not alone! You seem to be saying, "Good things that you really want" just don't seem to work out in your life" And, you believe that 'getting too excited and telling others about things, may be jinxing your expectations, since the same thing has happened to you at least a dozen times.
It also seems like you are depending a great deal on superstition and luck. One can't tell much from a distance with only limited information. However, over many years, I've worked with people in the ministry whose entire lives seem to be a series of 'bad outcomes'. They often view this as 'unfair, bad luck or fate,' but, in reality, their lives are almost invariably highlighted by one bad choice or decision after another.
These choices usually involve dysfunctional attitudes or interactions with others. Think about it for a moment. The same 'poor outcome' has essentially 'followed' you through about a dozen circumstances where you thought you 'deserved a win. It's about YOU! In this world, people wander in the darkness without understanding what makes them stumble. But, the fact is that those who walk in the light of the Lord, see more clearly and stumble less frequently. Last edited by jghorton; at PM..
Authentic Bird. This issue is very very known in many many cultures. But, I see you already gave the solution to it. So, it seems you know the reason. I think by sharing it around in a random way. It could happen. Have you every heard of envy effects? It's very possible. You shouldn't speak about every things specially that you didn't begin your work yet.
Some times, the way you speak about it to the other has a negative effect on you. Take it as a rule: If you don't have a control on your mouth, I think this problem might continue with u. Leave yourself an out. Don't declare that your art is going to be in an art show, tell people your art might be in an art show, if everything works out.
If it works out, share your excitement. If it doesn't, oh well, and if someone asks, just tell them it didn't work out the way it was supposed to. Tell them why, if you want. You can still share your potentially good news, but the fact is, you really don't know if something is going to happen until it actually does. This is true with everything. It is free and quick. Stay up! Keep going! You strain and focus as hard as you can on staying airborne, but alas, you divebomb towards the ground below, and just before you splatter onto the astral grass — you wake up.
Man, that was crazy. I almost had it! As soon as I recognized my surroundings as a dream, I knew a handful of things to do to keep myself in that world. One was to stay calm as elevating your heartrate was a surefire way to wake yourself up , another was to not think about what was really happening.
Basically, to not focus too intently on the details and nuances. If I let myself become overly aware of what was going on, my reality would start to blur and what once felt utterly real would begin to fade again into thought and back into the cozy but real world of pillows and blankets.
It might be a bit enjoyable, but that was no reason to get too excited about it. It was just flying, after all. A common stroll for the imagination. As the best Guide for hitchhiking across the galaxy helpfully puts it,. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. How familiar AND relevant. Moving on. Now, what does all of this flying dream-talk have to do with jinxing something? We say this because, I think deep down we know the damning effects of becoming overly aware of ourselves.
We feel on a fundamental level that if we open our eyes too wide to the situation and feel as if we have complete control over the best of outcomes, we will damn ourselves to failure. Physicians have known about the power of the placebo effect for as long as healing practices have existed. We know now that under the right circumstances, the placebo effect can have just as much of a benefit for a patient as traditional treatment.
Our brains associate things like drinking a tonic or taking a pill with health and healing, and so our bodies follow suit and begin to feel better despite the lack of actual medicine present. Again, Kaptchuk says,. I bring all of this up because, when it comes to belief, I believe that there is a strong correlation between the positive healing power of the placebo effect and the ability to shape our realities and perspective through belief alone.
Back to the word that sounds like the name to some kind of meddling cosmic trickster, the Jinx. You know that this presentation will either make or break your chances for sealing the deal and being the one your boss chooses to promote. The same goes for athletes and video games, artists and musicians. The avoidant actions included those that were superstitious -- like knocking on wood -- or non-superstitious -- like throwing a ball. They found that those who knocked down away from themselves or threw a ball believed that a jinxed negative outcome was less likely than participants who knocked up toward themselves or held a ball.
In addition, the researchers found that engaging in an avoidant action had its effect by leading people to have a less vivid mental image of the negative event.
